Google Glass- Innovative technology or a transparent idea?

It was a matter of days ago that I came across an article discussing Google ‘Glass’. The date might give you a clue as to why I was initially sceptical of the whole idea. After all, April 1st is the date when Google decide to mess with it’s users, introducing all kinds of new programmes and inventions. Naturally I thought Google Glass was one of them. However, despite my preconceptions I was assured that it is in fact real. It’s a crazy concept, one I will explain below in as best a way as I can. It’s still something

Video of the Day: Cheesy or Fantastic?

Many of us have seen the video of McFly’s Tom Fletcher making his wedding speech. In fact over 5 million of us have seen it so far. His speech hasn’t been a huge viral hit because it was your average speech or even because it was given by a B list celebrity. It became so popular because it was original. I can only imagine that the majority of those viewers on YouTube are woman either A)fantasising that their future husband will come up with something similar or B) momentarily hating their husband for not coming up with something equally as

Paws for Thought

Students have a great life – well for about 70% of the year anyway but then it comes to exam time and they have to catch up on an entire semester armed with nothing but incoherent notes, coffee and red bull. Combine that with a lack of sleep and it’s pretty easy to see how blood pressure can rise and stress can take over. One university in Canada is trying to help their students fight the strain this Christmas and are introducing a puppy room on December 4th, 5th and 6th for tense students. The announcement from Dalhousie University on

Video of the Day: Caught on Camera

We are always told security cameras are there to protect us and to record any wrong doing. The vast majority of the time they just record the mundane. However sometimes they capture moments of human interaction that just make you smile.

The Journey!

It’s perhaps a little too early for Christmas ads but when I came across this one it would have been rude not to share! The new John Lewis Christmas TV ad celebrates the extra mile we all go to at Christmas to find the perfect gift. Ok, yes you’re watching a snowman’s journey but while you travel with him and listen to the stunning music you’re sure to be touched by it. The ad is called ‘The Journey’, it opens in a family’s snow-covered garden, with children making a snowman and snowwoman. When the snowman has mysteriously disappeared the next

Video of the Day: Destination Middle Earth

Probably one of the biggest bugbears for airline crews the world over must be a passenger’s inability to pay attention during the safety demonstration. I know that I am guilty of this and let’s face it in the case of an emergency I am going to wish I had torn myself away from Grazia long enough to find out where my life jacket is stored. So when I came across this video by Air New Zealand this week, I thought it was a perfect example of how to make airline safety interesting, while also promoting New Zealand as a

Social Media & League of Ireland

Marketing on a Shoe string For as long as I can remember the word marketing keeps cropping up as one of the problems levelled at the League of Ireland, usually preceded by the words ‘lack of’. Money has always been short, which has hindered marketing efforts of the clubs. Being a big believer in how social media is the perfect platform for sporting organisations and clubs, of any size, to reach out and make meaningful connections with fans. I would have thought LOI clubs would have enthusiastically embraced it as a cheap (free?) way to help promote themselves, strengthen ties

Tippexperience 2: The Hunter & Bear Are Back!

Only last week I was talking to a colleague about the Tipp-ex video from a couple of years ago which allowed the viewer to rewrite an encounter between a hunter and a bear. It was a very clever and engaging use of video annotations and now Tipp-ex brought the idea to the next level in terms of creativity. The 2012 version goes a step further and allows you to rewrite history. Users can choose which year they want to send the time travelling duo to, with some really great results.  The Pac-man style game from 1980 is particularly fun. Follow @Nigeltails

Digital Marketing Summit

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Digital Marketing Summit at Croke Park after winning a ticket via the Digital Marketing Summit Twitter account. There was a broad cross section of various industries and individuals represented on the day. From the various speaker presentations I managed to attend before client work brought me away, I noticed a few common themes appearing; video, digital infrastructure and education. Leonard Donnelly and Dr Stephen Brennan, both of the Digital Hub, got the summit underway with their talk Ireland – Powered by Digital. One of their main points was

This week’s video is part of a collection that has had more than 70 million hits online and won numerous awards.  Most recently the internet sensation was named one of Ad Age’s “Top 10 Viral Ads of all Time” so we have therefore deemed it worthy of our Video of the Week!
