The Declan Kidney Years

Published on March 28, 2013 by in Sport

If you have read any newspapers since last Saturday’s defeat to Italy, you could be excused for thinking that it’s a foregone conclusion Declan Kidney has been axed as Ireland Head Coach. Much has been said about the future, or lack thereof, of Ireland’s current boss but there is still a lot to address on this issue. Like him or loathe him, the quiet Munster man has brought Ireland to the height of European rugby over recent years and we cannot forget this achievement, amongst others, even though many today see him as bringing our national team to its knees.

Mercy Mercy Me…

Published on January 31, 2013 by in Business, Sport

There can’t be many people in Ireland that haven’t been affected to one degree or another by cancer and anything that raises awareness, including the recent announcement by Cork GAA chiefs, is to be warmly welcomed. However where to now for Cork GAA? By way of a quick recap, Cork GAA lost their sponsor of the last 15 or so years (O2) and have so far been unable to find a replacement with the league season only a matter of days away. The other evening, they announced on their Twitter account (@OfficialCorkGAA) that they had offered their senior football jersey

Biggest Irish Sports Stars on Twitter: 2013 (Part One)

What we Googled in 2012

Every year Google’s Zeitgeist of the world’s most searched topics reveals what the we were interested in and wanted to know more about. So what about the Irish? The top trending searches are pretty much the topics and news stories you would expect with a combination of sports (Euro 2012, Olympics and Katie Taylor) and news stories (Household charge, Jill Meagher and Kate Midleton). It is the the other searches that reveal a little more. Clearly the Irish are an amorous bunch, or at least want to learn how to be. Love is top of the ‘What is..?’ searches while in the

Sports Pic of the Day: BOD Out

It was news all Irish rugby, and especially Leinster fans, didn’t expect or wanted to hear. Irish captain Brian O’Driscoll has been ruled out for 12 weeks as his ankle injury is much worse that first thought and requires surgery. Not only that but Ulster hooker Rory Best has also been ruled out. With full back also a problem position Kidney has been forced into a major re-think of the make up of his back-line for the November Internationals. Follow @Nigeltails

Sports Pic of the Day

Our sports pic of the day brings a smile to the face, just as wide as those of Brian O’Driscoll and six year old Michaela Morley. Members of the Leinster team visited Temple Street Children’s Hospital yesterday along with the Heineken Cup. This Leinster team is on the brink of a historic double and it great to see them take time to pay a visit to the kids at the hospital, which no doubt cheered them up!

Top Five Sporting Grás!

Published on May 24, 2012 by in Social Media, Sport

There is something about a message board or indeed a good comment section that I love and thescore.ie rarely disappoints and it was the same last weekend. Following on from a post about the Champions League win byChelsea, some keyboard hero had a go at the soccer fans and with that it kicked off… GAA is full of brawlers, soccer is full of thugs, GAA is better, soccer is better, culchies versus scumbags…you get the picture! I love these ‘debates’! Neither side has any sense of perspective – it is their way or the high way and what makes these

Biggest Irish Sports Stars on Twitter

Follow @Nigeltails We often hear in the media the battle by the various sporting organistions in this country for the hearts and minds (and bodies!) of the Irish sporting public. Who is winning this battle in the real world? It is hard to say. However it is much easier to measure in the Twittersphere, if the follower numbers of individual sports stars is anything to go by. Following on from Natalie’s blog post in February, when she looked at the top 10 GAA players to follow on Twitter, l have put together the top five tweeters from each of the
