The battle between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law!

From reading today’s Irish Examiner the below email was brought to my attention.  It involves the continuous battle between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.  I’m not quite sure why but the words mother-in-law sends a chilling sensation down my spine.  I know no woman will ever be good enough for a mother’s son and they will always believe that their son should have higher standards.   Of course they also know that if their little angel is happy then the mother- in-law should sit back and say nothing or in the case of Caroly Bourne. .  should they? She felt that her

SMILING IS GOOD FOR YOU :)

I knew it! Smiling is good for you.  Muris Houston wrote a wonderful article in the Irish Times Health Plus supplement today about SMILING  :)  (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/health/2011/0719/1224300940274.html).  I have been a big fan of Smile Therapy ever since John ‘The Biscuit’ Cage introduced it in an episode of Ally McBeal, circa 1999. When something or someone annoyed him, he would respond with a big, fat smile. Genius!    I have been practicing smile therapy for many years and can confirm it works. Day to day life is a drag and quite often not fun. Recently whenever I find myself irritated, annoyed, stressed

Rufus Roo-lution

Rufus – Roo-lution!!!!!!!!!! Rufus Roo whoever you are, you are a genius. I was delighted this morning when I read, in the Irish Sun, about the new invention to dupe the carry-on baggage allowance. The Rufus Roo doesn’t actually dupe the ground hostesses it more so points out in a very in-yer-face-up-yours sort of way all the extras that the passenger is bringing on his/her person becasue they don’t fit into the envelope the airlines restrict you to carry on. I HATE packing, with a passion. In the year and half I spent travelling I never perfected the pack. Instead

I Will Arise and Go to Sligo…

Wednesday’s, Irish Times special report on Sligo encompassed all the good things that Sligo has to offer. Splashed across the front cover is Benbulben Mountain, one of Sligo’s main focal points and tourist attractions. The Times left no stone unturned, covering many attractions and activities, including some I didn’t even know about myself! Visitors to Sligo often come for the infamous surf, and the report focuses on Strandhill, Sligo’s seaside town. Strandhill has an abundance of surf schools; Perfect Day Surf School and Strandhill Surf School to name but a few. Many of the instructors are from the land ‘down

Why don’t men wear skirts?

Published on July 7, 2011 by in Fashion, Lifestyle

Whilst reading the Irish Independent an article relating to Jean-Paul Gaultier’s latest collection caught my eye. Firstly, because his outfits as always were outlandish, fun and always remind me of the movie “The Fifth Element”. And secondly and probably more importantly because it made reference to his attempts in the 80’s to make it acceptable for men to wear skirts. Since there is a distinct lack of hairy legs on the streets today we can all safely assume that his attempts failed, but in this liberal age of metro-sexuality and “mankinis”, is now the time to attempt once again

Who’s the Daddy?

As speculation mounts as to whether Europe’s most infamous playboy prince is daddy to two, three or four children, one of whom may be just 18 months old it’s hard not to think that the timing of this royal philanderer’s news is anything but unfortunate.  It does beg the question however, was Charlene Wittstock a woman pushed into a marriage of convenience, or a WAG who has struck gold. Looking at pictures of her in her stunning Armani gown and weirdly un-flattering Chanel trouser suit, she looked far from a woman in love.  After the lusty balcony kiss by Kate

JOVI-ETTE FOREVER!

I think my legacy will be my many renditions of Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. A lot of people tell me every time they hear Bon Jovi they think of me. Naturally when I heard the boys were coming to town I didn’t hesitate to get two GOLD CIRCLE tickets. Last time I saw them in Punchestown a girl stormed the stage and hugged JBJ to be pulled off him by security only to launch herself back onto him (he, a true professional, continued to sing). This time I was determined to be that girl! The evening was

Culchie Check-ins

So how many of us actually use location based check-ins then? Have you got that one friend who must check-in at every location and tag everyone on Facebook along with them? Does it wreck your head when your news feed is filled with check-ins or when people have checked you in to a location when you didn’t actually want to be. I was a little thrown back last week at a new location when I made a passing comment “oooh I must check-in on foursquare” and a friend responded to say “You don’t actually check-in on Facebook do you??” “God
