Happy Feet

Scientists have made a magnificent discovery of 9,000 emperor penguins in East Antarctica. Activity was identified in 2009 when satellite images picked up large stains in snow, when examined further experts identified as penguin faces. Members of Belgium’s Princess Elisabeth Antarctica polar research traveled hoping that their predications of activity would be a reality, Expedition Leader Alain Hubert said, “I knew from the satellite study that there could potentially be an emperor colony east of Darael ice rise.” Little did they know a hidden colony of 9,000 penguins awaited them! It was on the front photo of The Irish Times and  reminds me of the film

She is regularly featured on best dressed lists around the world and now those looking to copy Kate Middleton’s style should look no further than the February edition of Vogue Magazine. The style bible has put together a comprehensive guide to being Kate and apparently it’s all a numbers games. The frankly bizarre article has broken down everyone’s favourite Duchess piece by piece. Exporting Success…. I’ll drink to that

Today’s report from Bord Bia shows the value of our food and drink exports in 2012 surpassed €9 billion for the first time. This is a fantastic success story in the midst of a global recession especially when you take into account our chief trading partners – UK, the US and Europe. Beverage exports are up €37million on the previous year a 3% increase on 2011 and as a category it is worth €1.26bn a year.  In the alcohol drinks industry Irish whiskey has huge potential.  In the US the Irish whiskey category is growing at double digit rates annually

6 PR and Social Media Predictions for 2013

The interweb and Twitter machine is full of predictions for the year ahead and many ‘experts’ are giving their views on trends and developments that will/could/might take place. If they are wrong, well, it can all be forgotten about in the deluge of content and information that is to come in the year. Drinkaware.ie Making Full Sense in their Campaigns

I am one of the thousands of Irish people that has given up drink for January, along with a good few other New Year’s resolutions! The latest drinkaware.ie campaign came to my attention today and, like all a lot of their previous campaigns, it makes perfect sense to me. The website that supplies information to Irish consumers on the responsible consumption of alcohol is not encouraging people to drop drink for January. It is encouraging people to drink in moderation so instead of abstaining for the first month of the year and then bingeing for the next 11 they are

6 Tips for Being More Visual With Social Media

The web is visual. Nothing new there and with the massive growth of YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr and with Facebook rolling out there own photo app, the importance for brands to be socially visual can’t be overstated enough. Research on Jeff Bullas’s blog shows that Facebook page posts with a single photo and photo albums receive the second and third highest engagement rates respectively. It makes it easier for those companies whose products or services are visual to harness the power of social media. What we Googled in 2012

Every year Google’s Zeitgeist of the world’s most searched topics reveals what the we were interested in and wanted to know more about. So what about the Irish? The top trending searches are pretty much the topics and news stories you would expect with a combination of sports (Euro 2012, Olympics and Katie Taylor) and news stories (Household charge, Jill Meagher and Kate Midleton). It is the the other searches that reveal a little more. Clearly the Irish are an amorous bunch, or at least want to learn how to be. Love is top of the ‘What is..?’ searches while in the
