This Week in Giant Killing

Published on January 28, 2013 by in Sport

As both Rafa and Rodgers where left fuming, over this weekend’s cup upsets, we are left wondering; will a club from the lower leagues be able to capitalize on the opportunity and land a spot at Wembley? Earlier this week Bradford proved that it was possible as they booked their place in the final of the Capital One Cup, where they will face a jubilant Swansea (minus one infamous ball-boy)! So really, where does the giant killing stop? A closer inspection of the eighteen remaining sides shows five of the proverbial ‘giants‘ if you will, remain in the FA Cup.

Marketing tips for Instagram

All the talk at the end of last year was around the updated terms of service  for the photo based app Instagram, which was bought out by Facebook earlier in year for a non too shabby $1 billion. So what is Instagram? It is a free application for iPhone and Android that allows users to take photos, apply filters to change the look of them and to share them The app has over 100 million users so maybe you are thinking you should be part of this but are unsure the best way to approach it. The following guide should

One to watch: Little Green Cars

An Irish band to watch out for in 2013 is Little Green Cars. The band is made up of five immensely talented people, Stevie Appleby (vocals and guitar), Adam O’Regan (vocals and lead guitar) Donagh Seaver O’Leary (bass guitar), Dylan Lynch (drums) and Faye O’Rourke (vocals and guitar) Their sound ranges from early REM to Woody Guthrie and they have been described as an Irish country-rock band. Interesting I know, but it works! They are doing so well they have been signed by both Island Records in the UK and the US based independent label Glassnote Records, who have also

Social Media & Sports: The Good, the Bad and Joey Barton

The Interactive Fan The business of sport is certainly one that was always going to change with the massive growth of social media. An industry based on the sometimes inexplicable actions of ‘fandom’, modern social media and smart phone technology have opened up a whole new opportunity for sports teams and organisations to embrace and utilise the never-ending stream of User-Generated Content. If today’s concerts are watched through the back of a camera or smart phone, then today’s sports events have become a hub for thousands of amateur reporters as they franticly tap away another 140 characters of the latest

The day the music died…HMV in administration

The changing face of high street and how we consume digital content is front and central again this morning with the concerning news that HMV is in administration. This is naturally a worrying time for everyone who works there and for their suppliers. It’s also a sad day for an iconic brand that has been central to the music industry for many decades. From 78’s that spun on wind up gramophones to downloads , HMV has been there through it all. Hopefully a new way can be found to overcome the challenges and help future generations dance to the tune

Biggest Irish Celebrities on Twitter

Last year I wrote a blog post about the biggest Irish sports stars on Twitter so I felt it was about time a list of the biggest Irish celebrities on Twitter was compiled.  From (ex)boyband members to stand up comedians it is quite a mix. Some have their large amount of followers thanks to the quality and humour of their tweets, others, well…. So here they are, with Mullingar’s second favourite singer, leading the way with a hugely impressive number of followers. Will Mr Horan be the most popular Irishman on Twitter for ever….scary thought! Niall Horan 9,106,650 9,106,650 female teenage

2013 Golden Globes- Best and Worst Dressed

It is always around this time of year that people with any interest in fashion become the biggest critics. This year, like every other, there has been an array of both breathtaking and abominable gowns displayed by the biggest names in Hollywood and I, along with many others, have been waiting anxiously to let our views be known! Fashion flops #1 The award for worst dressed goes without hesitation to Sarah Michelle Gellar.  Her Monique Lhuillier gown, that I can only describe as a tie die cloud, was supposedly chosen by her daughter. As sweet and all as it is

Video of the Day: Cheesy or Fantastic?

Many of us have seen the video of McFly’s Tom Fletcher making his wedding speech. In fact over 5 million of us have seen it so far. His speech hasn’t been a huge viral hit because it was your average speech or even because it was given by a B list celebrity. It became so popular because it was original. I can only imagine that the majority of those viewers on YouTube are woman either A)fantasising that their future husband will come up with something similar or B) momentarily hating their husband for not coming up with something equally as
