Tianlang Guan: A Future Masters

Published on April 17, 2013 by in Sport

At approximately 9.30am on Monday morning, Adam Scott had the entire nation of Australia on their knees, as he stood up to take what could potentially be the putt to win the Masters 2013. A feat that no Australian had ever done since the tournament was first played in 1934. Many have come agonizingly close but none had quite managed to take home that yearned Green Jacket. As the ball was travelling towards the hole, at a speed that must have felt like an eternity for Adam Scott, the crowds in the gallery behind Scott cautiously arose to their feet.

Workplace Fashion: Pembroke Ladies Grace Irish Tatler

The Pembroke ladies are showing off their work wardrobes in May’s issue of Irish Tatler which is out today. Knowing what to wear in the office can be a challenge – whether you’re starting out as a young professional or stuck in a style rut. That’s why I love the ‘9 to 5’ in Irish Tatler as not only does it give us instant style inspiration but it also provides a snapshot into the working wardrobes of Irish women.   CAPSULE WARDROBE At the risk of sounding like Gok Wan, I think a capsule wardrobe is essential to dressing successfully

Thatcher is like Marmite…

The death of Margaret Thatcher roused the voices and opinions of many this week as the British nation divided in two. Thatcher was the longest reigning Prime-Minister of the 20th century and only female ever to hold office. Her regimes to improve levels of high unemployment backfired and instead resulted in hunger strikes, breakdown of families and general social unrest. She passed away in hospital earlier this week at the age of 87. Whilst some turned to hate websites and social media pages to ‘celebrate’ her death, others condemned such activity and instead reached out to the public to forgive

Google Glass- Innovative technology or a transparent idea?

It was a matter of days ago that I came across an article discussing Google ‘Glass’. The date might give you a clue as to why I was initially sceptical of the whole idea. After all, April 1st is the date when Google decide to mess with it’s users, introducing all kinds of new programmes and inventions. Naturally I thought Google Glass was one of them. However, despite my preconceptions I was assured that it is in fact real. It’s a crazy concept, one I will explain below in as best a way as I can. It’s still something

When life imitates art…..

Published on April 3, 2013 by in Entertainment

Not sure if you’d call Far and Away art but anyway. I would like to applaud the genius who made the connection between Tom Cruise and Eyerland. His great (x100) grandfather ‘restored evicted tenants to lands just before the famine’ – I had to read this at least three times to understand it. It’s brilliant. Not only is he related but according to Tourism Ireland: Cruise’s ancestry includes knights, rebels and the “hero landlord”. He’s a HERO! Tom is happy, the Irish people are happy, the movie makers are happy. This is the best news anyone has heard all year!

Crisis As Usual

The following article appeared in the latest issue of Accountancy Ireland. The entire issue is available to read here.   Accountants are well versed in dealing with thorny business issues.  From liquidations to turnarounds, budget cuts to balance sheet restructuring, accountants can sometimes get ‘bad press’ for simply doing their job in a difficult situation.  With an estimated 1,700 companies going out of business in 2012, there were plenty of difficult situations to manage and each one had its own unique communications challenge. But 2012 itself was not unique in crisis management.  Take the past few years – BP Deepwater

Sponsorship and drink- Mick O’Keeffe, managing director of Pembroke Communications

Pembroke’s sports and sponsorship division, and others within the sponsorship industry, calculate that the Irish sponsorship market is worth in the region of €100m. Of this, 90% of the sponsorship revenue goes into sports related sponsorships. Globally, this figure sits at around $50bn.     When the last major ban of this kind was announced and began to be implemented, that time on tobacco in the EU in 1990s, many predicted the potential devastation to several sports and events. Tobacco heavily backed everything from darts to snooker and Formula One.   However, what people didn’t predict was the revolution in

The Declan Kidney Years

Published on March 28, 2013 by in Sport

If you have read any newspapers since last Saturday’s defeat to Italy, you could be excused for thinking that it’s a foregone conclusion Declan Kidney has been axed as Ireland Head Coach. Much has been said about the future, or lack thereof, of Ireland’s current boss but there is still a lot to address on this issue. Like him or loathe him, the quiet Munster man has brought Ireland to the height of European rugby over recent years and we cannot forget this achievement, amongst others, even though many today see him as bringing our national team to its knees.
