Sports Pic of the Day!

Today’s sport pic of the day, from the Irish Independent, can only be Galway’s win over Kilkenny. It wasn’t just about Galway captain Fergal Moore creating history by becoming the first man from Connacht to lift the Bob O’ Keeffe Cup at Croke Park. It was also the manner in which the Tribesmen simply destroyed Kilkenny in a first half of hurling that will live long in the memory of those who witnessed it.

Picture of the day is taken from today’s issue of the Irish Examiner. These stamps were launched to mark Dublin being named as this year’s City of Science. Dublin was designated a City of Science by the Lord Mayor of Dublin at the beginning of the year to celebrate Dublin hosting Europe’s largest science event, the Euroscience Open Forum. The ESOF is Europe’s largest, general science meeting and is held in a leading European city every two years. Taken from the Irish Independent, our picture of the day is four year old Evelyn waving both the American and Irish flags to celebrate the 4th of July. The picture was taken as the Taoiseach unveiled plans for the 50th anniversary of John F Kennedy’s visit to Ireland. The anniversary of this visit will take place in 2013 when there are major plans in the pipeline to celebrate the special date. Sports Pic of the Day!

Sports pic of the day is taken from Irishtimes.com which shows the French yacht Groupama celebrating as they were declared overall winner in the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Yacht Race. The winning team which includes Kerryman Damian Foxall finished second in the final leg but had a sufficient lead throughout the competition to secure their victory regardless of the outcome of the in-port race this coming Saturday.   More than 20,000 people turned out inGalwayto see the finish of the race in the early hours of this morning which served to justify the city as the final port in the race.

Pic of the Day!

Picture of the day, which appeared in the Irish Examiner is of a human butterfly created by the people of Limerick City as part of a community art project called Real Eyes. Southside Community Leadership Arts and Sports Programme in (CLASP) came up with this novel idea with the aim of bringing the community together and creating a positive news story. CLASP held art workshops with local school children in the area, encouraging them to focus on positive aspects of their own neighbourhoods. Pic of the day features in many of today’s papers. This particular shot comes from the Irish Examiner which shows the sheer amount of people who took part in the ‘Nunday’ event in Listowel, Co. Kerry.  Both male and female nuns arrived in their habits to break the Guinness Book of Records for the most people dressed as nuns in a single place. An astonishing 1, 436 ‘nuns’ took part thrashing the previous record which stood at 254. The event which was in aid of Pieta House took place on Saturday in Listowel Emmets GAA club.
