Tianlang Guan: A Future Masters

Published on April 17, 2013 by in Sport

At approximately 9.30am on Monday morning, Adam Scott had the entire nation of Australia on their knees, as he stood up to take what could potentially be the putt to win the Masters 2013. A feat that no Australian had ever done since the tournament was first played in 1934. Many have come agonizingly close but none had quite managed to take home that yearned Green Jacket. As the ball was travelling towards the hole, at a speed that must have felt like an eternity for Adam Scott, the crowds in the gallery behind Scott cautiously arose to their feet.

The Declan Kidney Years

Published on March 28, 2013 by in Sport

If you have read any newspapers since last Saturday’s defeat to Italy, you could be excused for thinking that it’s a foregone conclusion Declan Kidney has been axed as Ireland Head Coach. Much has been said about the future, or lack thereof, of Ireland’s current boss but there is still a lot to address on this issue. Like him or loathe him, the quiet Munster man has brought Ireland to the height of European rugby over recent years and we cannot forget this achievement, amongst others, even though many today see him as bringing our national team to its knees.

Alcohol Sponsorship: A Response

After reading a recent blog on our blog, this response was sent to the office. This is one of the most honest, open and fascinating blogs we will have ever posted. The person’s identity has been withheld, but what is most fascinating is how sport has helped to save him and after all is said and done, it is education and awareness and not an outright ban on alcohol sponsorship he is advocating. The day before I was released from Loughlin House prison in Co. Cavan, I watched some tennis tournament. One of the Williams sisters had just won it. She

Published on September 4, 2012 by in Sport

Thanks to Emmet Ryan for allowing us to feature another excellent Tactics not Passion review. You can follow Emmet Ryan on Twitter and read his blog Action81.com here. Tactics not Passion: Previewing Dublin vs Mayo

Published on August 31, 2012 by in Sport

The second All-Ireland Football Semi-Final sees defending champions Dublin take on James Horan’s Mayo. The always insightful Emmet Ryan looks at the tactical issues that will decide Sunday’s game. The Andy Moran non-factor The loss of Andy Moran may cost Mayo their shot at an All-Ireland but it’s unlikely to have a huge impact in this game. The full-forward was in contention for an All-Star before his season ending injury against Down and it’s easy to see why. A multi-threat target man, Moran was an effective ball-winner, natural scorer, and had the pace to bring other forwards into attack. Yet

Sports Pic of the Day!!

Today’s sports pic of the day is taken from the Irish Independent. Ireland played their first match without Shay Given last night. The match against Serbia took place in Belgrade. It has been a week of change for Trapattoni as he placed Kieren Westwood in goals and changed his formation putting three men in midfield. The match ended nil all but all players on the pitch played very well with Simon Cox as the stand out player.

Pic of the Day!

Today’s pic of the day is taken from The Irish Times and shows Asian bull elephant, Upali acquainting himself with his female companions at Dublin Zoo yesterday. At three metres tall and weighing more than 6,000kgs, Upali is now the largest animal at the zoo.   He arrived from Chester Zoo on Thursday night as part of the international breeding programme and it is expected that the elephants will mate soon and double the size of the Dublin zoo herd over the coming years, not an unrealistic expectation seeing as he is clearly proving popular with the ladies!
