From the Land Down Under? Blog post 1

As my Pembroke friends are out celebrating year two of the P’OSCARS aka Pembroke Oscars, I’ve decided to venture back into one of my favourite places- Irish Media Watch. I received a frantic text from Ciara last night to tell me the blog had gone “down under” (lol sorry I couldn’t resist that one) or at least she couldn’t figure out what was wrong. “It seems to be reverting back to the old blog for some reason” and so I thought the only way to find out what’s wrong is to test it out – hence my first blog post

Sports Pic of the Day

Wayne Rooney depicts a lonely figure last night as Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League in Basel last night. United went into the game needing a draw to qualify for the latter stages of the competition but on the night were simply not good enough losing 2-1 to their Swiss hosts. The Red Devils will now go forward and play in the Europa League, the only trophy yet to grace the Old Trafford trophy room during Sir Alex Fergusons tenure as manager.

Sports Pic of the Day

Three times All-Ireland club hurling champions, Portumna have taken a step into the unknown and stripped off for a club calendar. The calendar features members of the team, several of whom have featured for their native Galway, including Bord Gáis Energy Ambassador Joe Canning. Proceeds of the calendar go to the club as well as to help Cancer Care West. The above picture shows Joe and Ollie Canning joined by their brother Ivan for the delicate photo-shoot at the family hurling business in Portumna.

Sports Pic of the Day

Rory McIlroy claimed his third victory of 2011 at the Hong Kong Open over the weekend. The Hollywood man finished in empathic style by chipping in from a greenside bunker at the last to finish 12 under par, two shots ahead of Frenchman Grégory Havret.

Crack out a Christmas Jumper to Win €5,000 for your Charity of Choice

The busy Christmas period has begun and with it comes a certain degree of predictability as to what one can expect in the coming weeks. An overdose of food and drink coupled with the frantic running around to get last minute presents are the norm however in recent years the token Christmas Jumper on a night out has become as much part of Crimbo as the big man in red himself. This week the gift card specialist, One4all kicked off its 2011 charity Christmas Jumper Day campaign. One4all is calling on people nationwide to don a festive jumper to be

Song of the Week

Last week’s ‘Song of the Week’ received plenty of criticism around Pembroke Towers. Although the female contingent were more than happy with the choice – Rihanna’s Greatest Hits – the lads were, lets say, lessed than impressed. So much so that an EGM was called amongst its committee members! After a few stern words were dished out we decided to change the structure and allow one person to decide the theme and songs in order to mix it up. This week was the turn of the one and only Claire Turvey!!! In light of her getting two tickets for Bruce

Tips from the Top: Justin Cullen, MD of Radical

Justin Cullen: Managing Director of Radical           What is the most important business lesson you have learned? To fail in business is to learn, and the art of progress is to embrace your failures to create your success. Also, believe in the art of the possible, some mistake this sentiment for laziness and lack of vision, however I heard it first from Steve Jobs. What top tip would you give to anyone starting out in business? Be prepared to work harder than you thought you would ever work, be passionate about everything you do,  and get

Pic of the Day – Blow a raspberry

Pictured in today’s Irish Daily Mirror is one cheeky little monkey.  I know I’ve had a cheeky monkey or two appear as my Pic of the day before but I thought this was a cute one worth featuring. They may be fond of bananas but some cheeky monkeys like this little fella are partial to the odd raspberry as well.  This baby macaque blew one at his shocked mother in the Monkey forest on Bali. The expression on the mothers face really does say it all.  If they spoke English what would she be saying?  I’m sure there would
