Creative Campaign – Abstain for the All Blacks

This week’s creative campaign looks set to be a bit of a flop.  Telecom Corp, a team sponsor of the All-Blacks, plan to launch an advertising campaign in the coming weeks calling on fans to “Abstain for the All Blacks”. The idea is that fans will be given black rubber rings to wear to show they are supporting the abstinence campaign which Telecom is hoping will galvanise support for the All Blacks. The campaign which is being fronted by former All Blacks captain Sean Fitzpatrick is suppose to be tongue-in-cheek and tap into Kiwi humor, but a New Zealand Herald online

Tabloid Tales

This week in Tabloid Tales we feature the young Cork pupils who walked into to their lavish new school, the bride who cancelled her wedding minutes beforehand, and the latest online craze. Tuesday’s Sun described how EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace had a real life soap moment on her wedding day. Hours before she was due to walk down the isle, the Albert Square actor was left heartbroken after her husband-to-be, Vince Morse, confessed that he had been in contact with a former partner. Wallace was left fuming and cancelled the ceremony with just hours to spare, giving Morse ten days

Pic of the Day

Today’s Metro herald shows an overcrowded train packed full of thousands of Muslims heading home ahead of Eid al-Fitr in Bangladesh. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. From the above picture we can see that health and safety has little priority as people will literally sit anywhere in order to get to their desired destination. I wouldn’t fancy being the ticket inspector…

Sports Pic of the Day

It was such a bad game in Croke Park on Sunday between Dublin and Donegal that even the players were resorting to covering each others eyes. Our picture shows Dublin’s Alan Brogan covering the eyes of Donegal’s Anthony Thompson as to give him temporary reprieve from watching the forgettable All Ireland Semi Final.

Video Of The Week – 500 people in 100 seconds

I’ll never tire of the weird and wonderful videos that can be found on YouTube but this one is refreshingly different. 500 people from  around the world are photographed holding more than 1,500 images that work together to create an amazing effect. If it’s true that a picture tells a 1,000 words, this video is will certainly create talkability and with 800,000 views and growing it would appear that it’s doing just that. Let us know what you think!

Pic of the Day – Horsin’ Around

It wasn’t all horse play yesterday at the Auld Lammas Fair in Ballycastle, Co. Antrim. Despite the bad weather, many horse traders still made the traditional journey to the County Antrim town to witness the variety of breeds on show. It is believed to be Ireland’s oldest traditional market fair dating back as far as the 17th century. Along with the horses, revellers were treated to a music festival and the fairs famous treats, ‘dulse’ and ‘yellow man’. One being dried seaweed, with the latter being a sweet similar to honeycomb. Our pictures show one trader inspecting a potential buy,

Sports Pic of the Day

It’s been a tough few days for some of the world’s most high profile sprinters at the World Championships. Following on from Usain Bolt’s disqualification in the 100m on Sunday night, Olympic champion Dayron Robles was disqualified after winning the 100m hurdles. The Cuban was disqualified after the race as it was shown he accidentally impeded Chinese star Liu Xiang over the final two barriers.

There was a huge sigh of relief yesterday from all of New York’s inhabitants as Hurricane Irene passed without inflicting the devastation that was experienced in many other US states along the east coast. Parts of Manhattan were subjected to flooding however the damage was nowhere near as widespread as had been feared. Within an hour of the hurricane passing, normality had returned to the Big Apple as joggers came out to the streets that had minutes earlier been under water. Some New Yorkers, as our picture shows, made the most of the flooded streets by splashing through the washed

Dublin’s Stephen Cluxton and Kevin McManamon celebrate following the Dubs 8 – 6 victory over Donegal in Croke Park yesterday. The game which received widespread criticism from the experts for being a dire affair was a tense and hard fought encounter. Dublin will now go on and contest the All Ireland final against Kerry on 18th of September.
